Traditional South African biscuits

Bakers is considered South Africa’s biggest biscuit producer with a wide range of well-known sweet and savoury delicacies. We stock all the most well-known biscuits including Marie biscuits, Romany Creams, Lemon Creams and the delicious Eet-Sum-Mor biscuits. But let’s not forgets about the kids, we also stock the insanely delicious Iced Zoo biscuits and at Saffa trading we think there is nothing more South African than Iced Zoo biscuits – complete with your own ritual as to how you go about devouring yours. All these brands are truly South African icons, they have around for almost half a century and they come with a rich heritage and we believe they have earned their place in any South African expat’s cookie jar or pantry.

For a healthy snack-alternative you have to try another firm favourite, Provita. Even though you do find similar products overseas like in the UK and Australia these imitations don’t even come close to the wholesome crispy savoury taste of South African biscuits.  And no cheese-platter would be complete without a pile of Salticrax – flavoursome and delectably moreish, these are perfect for toppings and even better on their own.  Who hasn’t indulged in a handful of “end-of-the-month Salticrax” when the budget is too tight for fancy toppings?

Our website also boasts an assortment of traditional Rusks including our personal favourite, Ouma Rusks. This very renowned Southern African brand of rusks has been around for more than 80 years. It was first introduced by an enterprising granny as a cheap easy product to produce and consume for those who were suffering in the Great Depression. Today it is synonymous when you speak about South African rusks – perfect for dunking in your coffee at breakfast or as a snack between meals.

The foods of our childhood is what memories are made off, so get ready for an interesting trip down Saffa memory lane as you browse through our pages of biscuits and rusks.
